The Kaddish is a holy Jewish prayer. Its theme is the glorification of God.
Many times, those who use the term are referring specifically to a prayer which is recited by mourners. It is always recited during funerals and memorial services. Along with the Amidah and the Shema, this prayer is the most important of the Jewish religion.
This prayer opens with words which were inspired by a bible passage, Ezekiel 38:23. It relates to God's greatness being recognized by the individuals of all the world's countries.
In a central line, the congregation is prompted to respond with a public declaration of God's eternal greatness. The prayers always close with requests for God to grant peace. In Hebrew, the closing words are Oseh Shalom.
